So Shall It Be

Still, still with Thee,
when purple morning breaketh,
When the bird waketh and the shadows flee;
Fairer than morning, lovelier than the daylight,
Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee!

When sinks the soul,
subdued by toil, to slumber,
Its closing eye looks up to Thee in prayer;
Sweet the repose beneath the wings o’ershading,
But sweeter still to wake and find Thee there.

So shall it be at last,
in that bright morning
When the soul waketh and life’s shadows flee;
O in that hour, fairer than daylight dawning,
Shall rise the glorious thought, I am with Thee!

~Harriet Beecher Stowe “Still With Thee”

Never abandoned,
never alone,
never overwhelmed,
never without hope.

I wake knowing
even when the shadows are deep
and darkness threatens the light,
You are still with me.

And so shall it be at last.
So shall it be.

  1. Well said, dear Emily –.
    The gist of all that we believe and trust in Him.
    What more could we ever need to hang on to as we and our
    nation – and the world – approach the frightening precipice that looms before us?

    And a special acknowledgment to you, Emily, for your blessed and so vitally- needed ministry to all your readers and beyond….
