Little flower,
but if I could understand what you are,
root and all in all,
I should know what God and man is.

Am I root, or am I bud?
Am I stem or am I leaf?
All in all, I am
but the merest image
of God’s fruiting glory,
the tears shed
as He broke
into blossom.

  1. “TEARS SHED AS HE BROKE INTO BLOSSOM”
Profound observation, Emily. Your words present an image that express so much: joy, pain, love, doubt, hope, salvation, gratitude as we journey in our faith ….
    My immediate impressions:
    – Mary’s feeling, as she brought forth her son in joy and, a few years later, the pain she felt at Simeon’s prophecy that her heart would be pierced with a sword.
    – Jesus’ anguished moments at the cusp of His death, as He called out to His Father, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
    – Jesus’ promise to us as the Christ of the Universe, “…I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
