Preoccupied

Who would have thought it possible that a tiny little flower could preoccupy a person so completely that there simply wasn’t room for any other thought.
~ Sophie Scholl

This time of year I can’t seem to form any other thoughts beyond appreciation for the beauty on each stem and the fragrance that wafts from heliotrope and roses through an open window.  I might just fall head-long into the dark center of a flower like Alice into the rabbit hole and not find my way back.

Are there other thoughts that matter?

  1. I agree, Dear Emily. Last weekend I was in Boone, North Carolina, which deserves some kind of prize with surely the highest ratio of daylilies to people (or vice versa), not to mention all the other flowers, wild and domesticated, that seem to dominate every square foot of unpaved surface. I’ve had a concept for a music video using my paintings for a number of years; this is the year it will happen, what with a new digital camera that enables me to capture countless images and painting from them on my computer screen. I’ve studied enough botany to get me confused on the scientific aspects, but my profound appreciation for the process of botanical propagation is an anchor point in my creative endeavor. Our creator who put blue skies over green trees and yellow and red nasturtiums in the same plot must surely chuckle at those folks who insist that some colors “don’t go together.” How limiting.

  2. Oh, my. What extravagant naked beauty. Mesmerizing. All this, and so much more natural beauty, given to us to enjoy by our Creator God.
