Listening to Lent – Have Mercy

sunrise12173

Holy God
Holy and Mighty
Holy Immortal One
Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Holy God
Holy and mighty,
Holy Immortal One
Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Holy God
Holy and mighty
Holy Immortal One
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy,
Have mercy, have mercy on us.
~Fernando Ortego “Trisagion”

On this day,
I begin the dusty journey
into the darkest ash heap
of my soul, confronting
my limitations,
my temptations,
my inability to think of myself second,
my acknowledgement that salvation
comes from no work of my own.

Have mercy on this head bowed low, listening.

  1. Emily, you truly are a blessed, beautiful woman. Your prayer here today will set the tone for my entire Lenten journey – and beyond. And that is exactly what your words are — a prayer — humble, sincere, all-encompassing, I am making a copy to post on my bedroom mirror so that I may begin each day with it. Also will forward it to my relatives and friends whom I know will appreciate its meaning.

    Thank you.
    Love, Alice
