If There Were No God

“If there were no God, there would be no atheists.”
—G.K. Chesterton

I heard the same message
from several patients:
they would
commit suicide,
but not believing
in God
would mean
jumping from
the pain of living
into

…nothing at all…

I thought
feeling nothing
was the
point
of ceasing
to be

Perhaps they can’t imagine
a God
who created
doubters
sore afraid
of His caring

enough to die
so no one
becomes
nothing.

  1. There is a God and those students need someone to tell them we do understand and wish them well and that it is terrible for them to be so shallow that they should not ever deal with some real pain …. pain of the heart or pain of the flesh .Pain is part of life ….. it is nothing compared to what our Lord went thru for all of us … I wish I could be on campus and let them know that life is good even when it is so scary that they can’t figure out what they want to be when they grow up …. God will reach down and touch them if only they will pay attention to his touch and his spirit … You are doing such a good job for God to listen to them and let them know we all care … they are our future . We believe these college kids will make a better world for everyone … Carry on Emily … we are always sending you strenght thru our prayers and you are always giving us hope … and the next generation hope . I admire you so much … from afar but only a cyber space click away …

  2. Thank you so much for listening, Peggy. Some weeks I feel so desperately sad for these young adults who feel no hope. I can only try, in a government setting, to reassure them that morning follows the night, that what feels so bleak now is just temporary. I know some of them come through it to find the resilience to keep going. Your encouragement means a great deal.
