An Evening in the Skagit Tulip Fields

Fifty weeks of dirt rows
Plain and unnoticed.
Could be corn, could be beans
Could be anything;
Drive-by fly-over dull.

Yet April ignites an explosion:
Dazzling retinal hues
Singed, crying
Grateful tears for such as this
Grounded rainbow on Earth

Transient, incandescent
Brilliance hoped for.
Remembered in dreams,
Promises realized,
Housed in crystal before shattering.

  1. Beautiful pics, Emily. Reminds me of pics I’ve seen of the tulips in Holland.
I can understand why Skagit Co. is such a tourist destination this time of year.

I will never look at a tulip again without recalling your lovely
comment – especially the last line, “Housed in crystal before shattering.”
So accurate — like our earthly lives, until we are given the permanent brilliance
    that is our Redeemer’s promise.

  2. Wow!! A great reminder that beauty is often hidden, waiting for just the right moment to burst forth.
