Picturing the Light

The most important person in any picture is the light.
~Edward Manet

Not exactly dark, but without shade,
the sharp purity of morning has been
diminished. I read somewhere that
“only full light reveals shadow.”
Moving through fog, living
is a blindness, a yielding
of my layered ignorance to the mist.
~Luci Shaw from “Without a Shadow”

  1. Beautiful, mesmerizing, with an overtone of spiritual meaning. Thank you, Emily. What a great way to start my day.
I especially like “Dawn” (#7253). It is at once ethereal and yet has a hint of sensuality and expectation. It reminds me of the Luminism style used by the artists of the Hudson River and Rocky Mountain schools.
