Fifty weeks of dirt rows
Plain and unnoticed.
Could be corn, could be beans
Could be anything;
Drive by fly over dull.

Yet April ignites explosion
Dazzling retinal singe;
Hues make me cry
Grateful tears for such as this
Rainbow on Earth

Transient, incandescent
Brilliance hoped for.
Remembered in dreams,
Promises realized,
Housed in crystal, then shattered.

  1. Ah, Emily!! What an appropriate term for the colors coming from new spring growth. I took some reference photos a few years ago of an open field with a small purple flower blooming so profusely the purple-green fusion was an intimidating challenge to capture in watercolor. I’ve not done it yet, but I have the photos and … well, some day.

    Meanwhile, you have described the phenomenom brilliantly with words and NO pigment == oh, the tulip photos are lovely but, as my granddaddy would say, are just gravy, something to add to the real meat of the text. And such wonderful emotionally protein-ladened real meat your texts are.

  2. What a beautiful picture not only your visual of the flowers as we have NONE here in Minnesota yet, but of the words in Scripture. Our pastor preached on the very scripture of Jesus appearing to the men on the road to Emmas! Thank you for sharing the blessings God has given you. Come and visit us as well as we pray for another season of ministry in helping kids in crisis through a little 2 year old haflinger, Bokoda.
    God’s peace and JOY!
    Forever His,
    Lee
