Lenten Reflection–Love Enfolds the World

stanzas from the English hymn by Timothy Rees, all photos by Josh Scholten

God is love, let heaven adore him
God is love let earth rejoice
Let creation sing before him
And exalt him with one voice

God who laid the earth’s foundation
God who spread the heavens above
God who breathes through all creation
God is love, eternal love

God is love and love enfolds us
All the world in one embrace
With unfailing grasp God holds us
Every child of every race

And when human hearts are breaking
Under sorrow’s iron rod
Then we find that self same aching
Deep within the heart of God

God is love and though with blindness
Sin afflicts all human life
God’s eternal loving kindness
Guides us through our earthly strife

Sin and death and hell shall never
O’er us final triumph gain
God is love so love forever
O’er the universe shall reign

  1. I love this! Here I recognize a hymn that I have always loved. Encourageing, uplifting.. : from the Christian Science Hymnal; Hymn 282.

    Praise the Lord, ye heavens, adore Him;
    Praise Him, angels, in the height;
    Sun and moon, rejoice before Him,
    Praise Him, all ye stars of light;
    Praise the Lord, for He hath spoken,
    Worlds His mighty voice obeyed;
    Laws that never shall be broken
    For their guidance hath He made.

    Praise the Lord, for He is glorious;
    Never shall His promise fail;
    God hath made His saints victorious,
    Sin and death shall not prevail.
    Praise the God of our salvation;
    Hosts on high, His power proclaim;
    Heaven and earth, and all creation,
    Laud and magnify His name.

    I confess, I am a Christian and I have studied the Bible for 30 years.. 10 years in Swedish and 20 years in English. I love singing hymns and going to Church.
