Still Astonished

… I too spend my days grazing,
feasting on every green moment
till darkness calls,
and with the others
I walk away into the night,
swinging the little tin bell
of my name.

Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
~Mary Oliver from “Sometimes” from Red Bird

I am astonished living through nearly seven decades,
sometimes amazed by joy and sometimes by sorrow.
I hope to see much more before I’m done,
to keep trying in my own way to tell about it.

I am grateful, so very grateful
to live out these years learning:
how love can heal,
how tears are dried,
and most astonishing of all,
why God came here to carry us home.
